Info | Michael Caron was overwhelmingly re-elected to his 7th term as State Representative on November 5, 2002 for the 44th District, which includes the towns of Killingly, Sterling and Plainfield.
Representative Caron has held various leadership posts during his term in the General Assembly. The 2003-2005 legislative sessions will be no different. The House Republican Leadership once again tapped Rep. Caron to serve as Assistant Minority leader for the caucus. This position will allow him to continue to advise the Minority Leader on key legislation and important policy issues and to set the legislative agenda for the caucus.
Due to his success during his former service as Ranking Member of Public Safety Committee, the House Republican leadership re-appointed Representative Caron the Ranking Republican member of the General Assembly?s newly created Transportation Bonding Subcommittee - where he is charged with developing the capital budget for transportation projects in Connecticut, such as highway and bridge improvements.
These leadership posts also allow him to continue to voice eastern Connecticut?s concerns regarding the transportation infrastructure of this region, especially the controversial Route 6 issue that has plagued motorists of this area for many years.
Representative Caron will resume his membership on the General Assembly?s Public Safety Committee, where he earned the respect of colleagues as the former Ranking member. He will also continue to serve on the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee that forwards the tax-package for full legislative approval.
Rep. Caron also serves on the Banks Committee, providing him the opportunity to voice the concerns of residents and business owners in eastern Connecticut over key financial and lending legislation.
In addition to legislative responsibilities, Representative Caron is the former Treasurer and current Chairman of the National Conference of Legislators of Gaming States. In 1997, he had the honor of hosting their annual conference in Hartford, which included legislators, staff, media, and industry representatives focusing on various aspects of the gaming industry in the United States.
Representative Caron has a long list of legislative accomplishments including his support of cutting the income tax, providing greater property tax relief for Connecticut families, and reducing the burdensome gas tax that has plagued Connecticut families and businesses. Since 1995, he has backed $2 billion in tax relief in Connecticut.
He has voted to provide quality health care for all Connecticut residents through managed care reform and the HUSKY Program, to implement the successful school-to-work program for Connecticut high school students, and to improve the state?s business climate by attracting hundreds of new businesses and jobs to our state.
In 1998, the Connecticut State Police endorsed Representative Caron for his dedication and legislative actions to improve public safety for people and families in Connecticut.
Raised in Killingly, Representative Caron attended Saint James School and graduated from Killingly High School in the late 1978, where he was active in sports and student government. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University, studying history and finance.
Prior to being elected State Representative in 1990, Representative Caron was a member of the Danielson Borough Council - serving as President from 1988 to 1990.
Representative Caron was a fully licensed personal financial advisor for American Express Financial Advisory and currently is an independent advisor.
Representative Caron and his wife Lauren have one son, Mackenzie, and reside in Danielson.
