Info | First elected to the House of Commons in 1988, Mark Assad is well-known in Quebec for his dedicated representation of his constituents. From September 2000 to January 2003, he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
In Parliament, he has served on the standing committees on Industry, Citizenship and Immigration, Public Accounts, Agriculture and Agri-Food, Official Languages and Scrutiny of Regulations.
In Opposition, Mr. Assad served as Critic for Tourism and for Public Works and Associate Critic for Supply and Services.
Prior to serving in federal office, he was a member of the Quebec National Assembly, elected four times beginning in 1970.
Before entering public life, Mr. Assad was a teacher of history, English literature and geography. He was also an administrator in Quebec and Ontario.
Mr. Assad obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History from St. Patrick's College, and a Master's of Public Administration from École nationale d'administration publique.
