Info | Born in Berlin, Stéphane Hessel became french in 1937.
He was member of the Résistance, at the side of Charles de Gaulle after march 1941 in London. Hessel was arrested and transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp in 1944.
In 1945, he entered the french Foreign Ministry and was an administrative director of the UN from 1946 to 1950. He contributed as Secretary of the Human Rights Committee at the UNO to the elaboration of the Universal Declaration Human Rights in 1948.
He is also known as the author of many books, among them "Time for Outrage!" (Indignez-vous!), published in 2010 which became a bestseller and was translated in many other languages.
