InfoFormer Union Township, New Jersey, Mayor Anthony E. Russo '48 has been inducted into the New Jersey State League of Municipalities' Elected Officials Hall of Fame, an honor given to those who have "selflessly guided their communities through the good times and troubled times." Russo joins 162 of New Jersey's present and past office holders.

Retired from public office, Russo served 27 years on the local Township Committee, four years in New Jersey State Senate, and ten years as mayor of Union Township. He remains active in his law practice and as a member of the Union County Attorney's office.

Russo, a native of Phillipsburg, N.J., opened a law office in Union Center after graduating from Lafayette and receiving a law degree from Rutgers University. When fellow Lafayette alumnus and Phillipsburg native Robert B. Meyner '30 asked Russo to help him in his campaign for governor of New Jersey, Russo agreed to assist in any way he could. Meyner won, and Russo was hooked on politics.

"Bob Meyner had been our family lawyer in Phillipsburg," says Russo. "I worked on his campaign, and he influenced me to get into public service. I got involved at every level of government, and I met a lot of fine people. Those were truly enjoyable years."
