Experience Profile
Ms. Nafis has over 25 years of experience in office management and administration activities for transportation planning and engineering firms. As Vice President and Office Manager, her responsibilities at Fitzgerald & Halliday, Inc. (FHI) encompass a broad range of activities, including management and coordination of financial, business development and general office functions for the company.
In the area of financial activities, Ms. Nafis is responsible for coordination and oversight of all accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and tax accounting activities. In addition, she serves as liaison to the firm's auditors and accountant and oversees all data relative to overhead and job cost accounting.
General office management responsibilities include oversight of all non-technical functions of a staff of 25 employees at 18 home office locations. Human resource and production responsibilities include composition, editing and documentation of a variety of company policies, reports, and financial documents and oversight of all personnel functions.
In addition to her office responsibilities, Ms. Nafis has worked in a technical capacity on a variety of transportation and environmental planning projects since joining FHI. Her roles have included data collection, analysis and documentation, including the undertaking of a variety of pedestrian and on-board surveys for transit studies, traffic counts and report preparation.
Prior to joining FHI, Ms. Nafis was employed for several years by an multi-million dollar international engineering firm, De Leuw, Cather & Company. She spent three years at De Leuw, Cather's corporate headquarters in Washington, D.C., where she managed a variety of business development activities for the entire company, including annual budget preparation, annual sales plan development, and internal management functions. Upon her return to Connecticut, Ms. Nafis oversaw all administrative activities for a staff of over 35 engineers located in the East Hartford field office.
