| Info | A dynamic and successful businessman, Alex Shepherd joined the Liberal Caucus in 1993 and was re-elected in 1997 and in 2000.
He is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Standing Committee on Transport. He has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for Infrastructure.
At the Prime Minister’s request, Mr. Shepherd chaired the National Caucus Economic Development Committee from 1997 to 1999.
Since his election, Mr. Shepherd's entrepreneurial background has shaped his busy parliamentary schedule. He has served on the following standing committees: Industry, Natural Resources, Finance, and Public Accounts, where he served as Vice-Chair.
Alex graduated from Carleton University in 1970 (B. Comm.) and set up his own chartered accountancy practice in Port Perry in 1974 after receiving his CA designation.
Once his practice was established he started a 260-acre farm operation and expanded his accounting operation opening a second office in Beaverton, Ontario.
He is also founder and CEO of Cressbrook Financial Services, Cressbrook Investment Limited and Cressbrook Inc. based in Houston Texas.
In June 1998, Alex received his Certified Financial Planner designation.
He and his wife Carole have three children.
