| Info | John Olson is a husband and father to six children, a former U.S. Army Drill Sergeant, attorney, Afghan War veteran and small-business owner with the experience, leadership and integrity to fight for Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District. He is currently still serving our country with distinction in the 1st Battalion, 354th Regiment, and among his official commendations is the Bronze Star for Exemplary Service.
Beginning life on a farm, John learned early the value of hard work and service to his country. After facing tough times and moving to the city, John began earned money mowing lawns at 12 and was working in a steel factory at 15. These experiences helped to reinforce a strong work ethic, and shortly after he graduated from high school, John took that work ethic and enlisted in the Army.
During his 15 years of service, John served in South Korea, the 101st Airborne Division, Afghanistan, and right here in Oklahoma. Upon completion of his tour in Afghanistan, John received a direct commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Military Police Corps. He now serves as the Company Commander for a drill sergeant company headquartered in Tulsa.
John’s overseas deployments include the war in Afghanistan and a year-long tour in the Republic of Korea. John has held leadership positions throughout his service from team sergeant to senior drill sergeant as well as multiple successful company commands. While in the 101st, John was responsible for the security and safeguarding of millions of dollars worth of sensitive equipment containing highly classified U.S. intelligence. In Afghanistan, he oversaw infrastructure development. He also led or coordinated more than 200 mounted combat patrols throughout the country.
In his civilian life, John earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Law Degree from the University of Tulsa before starting his own small human resources consulting business in 2010, during the recession. His business focuses on organizational development and leadership training. John, his wife, Zsa, a therapist for the BAIR Foundation, and their six kids live in Tulsa and are proud to call Oklahoma home.
