Info | Christine (Vinatieri) Erickson cares deeply for the future success of South Dakota. Christine and her husband, Tony, are raising three children who are the family’s sixth generation of South Dakota residents. “After a lot of thought and prayer, I believe that now is the time for me, and other working and stay-at-home mothers, to let our voices be heard for education and small business.”-- Erickson, 2012.
Born in Rapid City into a blue collar family of six, Christine grew up learning the value of hard work. Christine’s father served in the United States Army and then proceeded to retire from the insurance industry after completing thirty-two years of service. Christine’s mother worked in the school cafeteria serving lunches to the elementary students by day and hearty meals to her own family every evening. Taught by her parents to work hard for her goals, Christine became a devoted athlete in various sports, competing at the collegiate level while maintaining her studies and working part-time. Christine continues to work hard today for her family and small business, and she looks forward to working equally as hard for the residents of South Dakota.
Christine received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from National American University in Rapid City before moving to Pierre to work for the Department of Revenue. While employed as a Revenue Agent, Christine maintained a close relationship with small business and became well versed in state tax law. During her employment in Pierre, she received “Revenue Agent of the Year.” Christine’s interest in politics and local government was fostered throughout her four-year employment with the Department of Revenue.
In 2005, Christine obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the University of Sioux Falls and married Tony Erickson, a life-long Sioux Falls resident. Tony’s father was an elementary school principal at Oscar Howe Elementary, and his mother worked many years for the city’s human resources department. Today, Tony works as a real estate agent with Hegg Realtors. Christine owns and manages rental properties together with her husband.
Christine’s faith and family provide a solid foundation in her life. Together, Christine and Tony are the proud parents of three boys--Anthony, Braylon and Charlie. Christine’s positions as a stay-at-home mother and small business owner have allowed her to gain even more interest in local politics as she has been introduced to new topics that affect families and small business owners--the importance of quality education, the need for strict laws to protect our children, and proper utilization of our tax revenue.
Christine and Tony are members at Central Baptist Church where they are actively involved in a small group and various volunteer positions. Christine has served at Central as the leader of a large, local MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, which serves approximately 100 mothers within the city. Christine volunteers weekly in her son’s classroom, in addition to helping coach his soccer team. Christine and her family love playing games together--whether it is a board game in the family room or an active game of soccer in the backyard.
Proud to be a wife, mother, and South Dakota citizen, Christine has a vested interest in keeping Sioux Falls the best possible place to raise children and transact business. She is passionate about serving people, speaking truthfully, and collaborating with others.
