The whole city is in mourning today. The capital is draped in black and everywhere flags are at half mast in honor of the memory of the late secretary of state, E.G. Waite. All morning the body lay in state in the assembly chamber at the capital and was viewed by hundreds of citizens. At the funeral service this afternoon Governor Markham delivered a brief eulogy and a series of resolutions were read by a committee from the heads of the departments at the capitol and their deputies, expressing the highest regard for the deceased. The funeral was largely attended. The body was laid in the state plot in the city cemetery."
