Info | Taylor Howarth is an undergraduate Ethics student at Saint Paul University. Howarth was born and raised in the GTA, but has called Ottawa home for the past five years. Howarth has been inspired to run for MPP in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell because she is believes the Green Party is the only party truly concerned with developing a sustainable, community-based society. As MPP, Howarth would promote financially, socially and environmentally sustainable local food systems as she believes that through public education of smart food choices and the province’s support of Ontario-based food producers, the strain on healthcare can be relieved for future generations.
Howarth has been actively involved in voluntary political roles over the course of her scholastic career. She began as a Father Leo J. Austin C.S.S. grade level representative and eventually became Student Council President, where she was fortunate enough to participate in the first Durham Catholic District School Board Student Senate. She has also served as a student representative for the Carleton University Student’s Association (CUSA) and Saint Paul Student’s Association (SPUSA). Howarth was fortunate enough to spend five months of last year teaching English in Hangzhou, China where she learned the value of community dependability and grass roots support systems in the absence of government social programs. The previous summer and months prior to her voyage East, she spent as a fish vendor in Ottawa’s Byward Market, where she was introduced to some of the concerns held by rural communities whose livelihood depends on the successes of the local food industry.
During her free time, Howarth enjoys engaging in stimulating conversation over a good cup of tea, reading various themes of fiction and non-fiction, creating her own literary works and playing her guitar. She is also known to belt out a note or two every now and then at local open mic events in the city. Taylor welcomes your vote on October 6th, 2011.
