InfoRepresentative Joseph Mitchell, founder of Alabama American Research and Education Associates, Inc., was born on May 28, 1948, was elected to the Mobile County School Board in 1990 and to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1994. He was baptized by the African Methodist Episcopalian at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church - a church founded by his maternal grandparents. He is the eldest of three surviving sons of J. Christopher, by Rischard and Hattie, and Julia Louise, by Charlie and Julia Alberta. He is the spouse of Janetta Whitt-Mitchell by Charlie and Mary Whitt. Representative Mitchell graduated Central High School in 1965, received his B.A. from Morehouse College in 1969, his M.A. from the University of South Alabama in 1974, C.A.S.E. from the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1979, and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 1983. Representative Mitchell represents a district distinguished by its inclusion of The Plateau, an Alabama Community, one of State's oldest African settlements and "The Avenue," one of Alabama's oldest African American urban business and residential communities. He is also a published researcher in industrial engineering and educational psychology, and is a performing jazz musician.
