Info | Brad Stark, building a successful coalition of supporters and volunteers, recently became the youngest person ever elected to the Spokane City Council � besting the previous record of current Mayor Jim West by 5 years. While surprising to many, those who know Brad Stark are not. Spokane community whose work ethic and dedication to service is unparalleled.
Brad Stark is a native of Creston,Washington. He attended Gonzaga University where he graduated with a major in Political Science and minor in Religious Studies in 2001.
Throughout his education, community involvement has been incredibly important to Brad Stark, especially participation in the political process. He has been involved in numerous campaigns in varying leadership capacities.
This political involvement led Brad to a position as a Legislative Assistant for Senator Lisa Brown during her first year as Chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee where an operating budget and capital budget were crafted in the face of a $1.1 billion shortfall in revenue.
After this tenure in the Senate, Brad decided to sharpen his focus on local issues and challenges. Brad returned to Spokane and joined the American Red Cross in July of 2001 and has not looked back. As Public Affairs Coordinator, Brad handled public inquiries, media relations, special events and worked to promote the Red Cross principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality. Less than two weeks onto the job, Brad was sent to Okanogan County to assist with the ongoing operations associated with the wildfires that raged throughout Central Washington. And, since that time, had been the consistent voice of the Red Cross in the Inland Northwest Chapter in delivering the message of hope that the American Red Cross represents � this especially after the attacks of September 11th.
Brad soon was recruited by the Inland Northwest Council, Boy Scouts of America to serve as a District Executive for the Thunderbird District � the council's largest district. In this role, Brad has worked to provide a model of service leadership to the hundreds of volunteers who are the true strength of the Scouting program. Activities have included the successful implementation and management of the annual finance campaign, organization of top-flight youth activities, and the recruitment of key community volunteers to ensure the programs success.
Brad Stark's recent community involvement outside of the political arena has included organizational and leadership efforts with the Spokane Alliance � an organization comprised of organized labor, churches, and educational and other civic institutions working to promote an agenda for the common good. Recent successes have included the establishment of ongoing negotiations with the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) regarding regional energy transmission issues. Brad is also a member of Rotary-North.
Throughout it all, Brad Stark remains committed to the betterment of the Spokane region through the primary means of economic development and looks forward to continually working in new ways to strengthen the community and region of which he belongs.
