Info | Sen. Clifton Below is a Democrat serving his third term representing District 5. Previously, he served three terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1993 to 1998. Since taking office, his priorities have been healthy families and communities, excellence in public education, fair taxes, and a sound and sustainable economy and environment. Below vice chairs the Energy and Economic Development Committee and sits on the Finance, the Transportation, and the Environment committees.
Below is also active in regional and national energy policy committees. He chairs the Advisory Council on Energy (www.ncsl.org/programs/esnr/ace.htm) of the National Conference of State Legislatures. He serves on the steering committee of the National Council on Electricity Policy (www.ncouncil.org) and is the vice chair of the Energy and Environment Committee of the Council of State Governments (www.csgeast.org/programs/energy_enviro/energy_enviro.html).
Below has been active in numerous organizations in District 5, including Friends of the Northern Rail Trail, Lebanon Garden Club, Lebanon Opera House Improvement Corp., Lebanon Planning Board, Headrest, and Listen. He currently serves on the Lebanon Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
Below's professional career includes serving as managing general partner of One Court Street Associates since 1985. He is responsible for the ongoing management of One Court Street, a commercial office building in downtown Lebanon that is home to the Three Tomatoes restaurant and many other businesses.
He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds a master of science degree in community economic development from Southern New Hampshire University. Born in Memphis, Tenn., he now lives in Lebanon with his wife Kathryn Petuck.
