Following college, he worked for the United State Department of Veterans Affairs. John entered law school at the Widener University School of Law in Delaware and graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor degree.

After graduating law school, he began practicing as an attorney in Delaware County. His early career included a general practice concentrated on civil, criminal and family law litigation. He joined the firm of Swartz Campbell in 1996 and has since practiced in the areas of civil litigation and municipal government law. In his role as solicitor, he oversees the legal affairs of the County government and works on a daily basis with the Delaware County Council developing County policy.

McBlain negotiated the agreements that brought Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack to the City of Chester and led the negotiations that brought the Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer Team and PPL Park to Delaware County.

McBlain’s interest in government began at a young age when he was appointed to the Aldan Borough Council at age 24. He subsequently was elected to four terms on the Borough Council. For most of his time on Aldan Council, McBlain served as Vice President of Council. He served as Chairman of various Council Committees, including the Law and Ordinance Committee; Finance Committee; and, Public Works Committee. He also served as Council’s liaison to the William Penn School District where he actively fought for fiscal responsibility in the district.

McBlain has been an active member of the Delaware County community. Among other activities, he has served as the President and Executive Board member of the Aldan Boosters Civic Association; softball coach for the Aldan Girls Club; volunteer solicitor to the Millbourne Fire Company; President of the Delaware County Board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America and President of AOH Division 4 in Delaware County; church lector at Sacred Heart Parish in Clifton Heights and a member of the Grade School Steering Committee at St. Eugene School in Clifton Heights.
