Info | TANNER, Adolphus Hitchcock, a Representative from New York; born in Granville, Washington County, N.Y., May 23, 1833; completed preparatory studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1854 and commenced practice in Whitehall, N.Y.; during the Civil War entered the Union Army in 1862 as a captain; was subsequently commissioned lieutenant colonel of the One Hundred and Twenty-third Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry, and served until the close of the war; elected as a Republican to the Forty-first Congress (March 4, 1869-March 3, 1871); resumed the practice of law in Whitehall, Washington County, N.Y., and died there January 14, 1882; interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Salem, N.Y.
