InfoMILLER, Rutger Bleecker, (son of Morris Smith Miller), a Representative from New York; born in Lowville, Lewis County, N.Y., July 28, 1805; attended the common schools in Utica, the Catholic College, Montreal, Canada, and Yale College; was graduated from the Litchfield Law School in 1824; was admitted to the bar and practiced in Utica, N.Y., 1829-1831; manager of the Utica Wilberforce Society 1829; interested in banking and railroads 1832-1833; trustee of the village of Utica 1829-1831; member of the first board of aldermen of the city of Utica; member of the State assembly in 1832; clerk of the United States district court in 1833 and 1834; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Samuel Beardsley and served from November 9, 1836, to March 3, 1837; engaged in the erection of buildings and in railroad construction, and subsequently in the management of his farm in Boonville, Oneida County; died in Utica, Oneida County, N.Y., November 12, 1877; interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
