Info | BASS, Lyman Kidder, a Representative from New York; born in the town of Alden, Erie County, N.Y., November 13, 1836; attended the common schools and was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1856; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1858 and commenced practice in Buffalo, N.Y.; district attorney for Erie County 1865-1872; renominated in 1871, but declined to accept; unsuccessful Republican candidate for election in 1870 to the Forty-second Congress; elected as a Republican to the Forty-third and Forty-fourth Congresses (March 4, 1873-March 3, 1877); because of ill health declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1876; moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 1877 and continued the practice of law; served as general counsel for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad Co., from 1878 to 1884; died in New York City, while on a visit, May 11, 1889; interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, N.Y.
