Info | PECK, Jared Valentine, a Representative from New York; born in Port Chester, Westchester County, N.Y., September 21, 1816; attended the common schools; engaged in the lumber, brick, hardware, and building-material business; auditor for the town of Rye in 1844 and 1845; member of the State assembly in 1848; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855); was not a candidate for renomination in 1854; resumed his former business pursuits; appointed warden of the port of New York by Governor Morgan in 1859, with residence in New York City, and served until 1865; one of the founders of the Union League Club; returned to Westchester County and settled in Rye; member of the town board of auditors; died in Rye, Westchester County, N.Y., December 25, 1891; interment in Greenwood Union Cemetery.
