Democratic committee; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second and Sixty-third Congresses and served from March 4, 1911, until October 3, 1914, when he resigned; appointed by President Wilson on October 5, 1914, as an associate justice, and on May 31, 1918, as chief justice, of the supreme court of the District of Columbia and served until his retirement on December 8, 1929; resided in Washington, D.C., until 1932, when he moved to Cambridge, Mass., where he died on July 17, 1933; interment in Troy Cemetery, Troy, N.Y.
