Info | Hinda Miller was elected to the Vermont Senate in 2002, and is now in her second term as one of six Vermont state senators from Chittenden County. She currently sits on the Senate Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs committee as well as Appropriations Committee.
Before her life in the Senate, Miller enjoyed a successful career as an entrepreneur, corporate executive, visiting university professor, corporate director, community activist, and yoga teacher. In 1977, she co-created the original sportsbra named the ‘Jogbra’, and grew the business into one of Chittenden County’s most successful employers. After building an international brand and selling the company to Sara Lee Corp, Miller continued on as President, CEO & Spokesperson from 1990-1997.
After leaving Jogbra, Miller focused on consulting for small businesses, and she continues her promotion of women and entrepreneurship. This work led to her becoming a trustee of Champlain College, and a board member of the New England Culinary Institute and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.
Miller’s other civic roles included serving on the Burlington Airport Commission and as the first woman Chair of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce.
She has also been a community activist for important issues. In the spring of 2000, Miller was the coordinator for the Vermont Million Mom March, organizing youth, politicians, educators, clergy, businesses and mothers to advocate gun safety. She also was a founding board member of the Child Care Fund of Vermont, which brings together business leaders, public officials and advocates to improve Vermont’s Child Care.
Miller was born in Montreal in April, 1950 and moved to the United States in 1968. She received her BFA from Parsons School of Design and MFA from New York University.
She has been a resident of Burlington, VT since 1977. She lives with her husband, Dr. Joel Miller, and has two teenage children.
