Info | Mickey Dale "Mike" Beebe
On Dec. 28, 1946, in Amagon, Ark., Mickey Dale "Mike" Beebe was born. He was the only child of a single mother. Mike's mother never obtained a high school diploma and worked multiple jobs as a waitress to support Mike.
Mike grew up attending public schools. While home was always Arkansas, Mike and his mother moved many times in his early childhood. Mike remembers in the fifth grade attending five schools in five different states. In 1964, Mike graduated from Newport High School and entered Arkansas State University thanks to student government loans.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arkansas State University in 1968 and was named ASU's Distinguished Alumnus in 1989. In 1972, he received a law degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he served as Editor-In-Chief of the prestigious University of Arkansas Law Review.
Mike served his country in the United State Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974. He was named the Outstanding Trainee of Delta Company, 5th Battalion, 1st Training Brigade in Fort Benning, Georgia and received advanced training at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama
In 1972, Mike moved to Searcy, Ark., and began practicing law with the firm of Lightle, Tedder, and Hannah. He is now a senior partner in the law firm now known as Lightle, Beebe, Raney, Bell and Simpson. He has enjoyed a successful legal career, having been named Outstanding Trial Lawyer of Arkansas in 1982 and having served as president of the White County Bar Association.
Mike began his career in public service after being elected to the Arkansas Senate in 1982. In 2001, after 19 years of dedicated, distinguished service in the Senate, Mike was elected by his peers to the position of President Pro Tempore.
This position allows him to preside over the Senate and make committee appointments.
Mike is a member of the Joint Budget Committee, which reviews in detail every spending request by every state agency. He also serves as vice chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which reviews all legislation concerning changes in criminal and civil statutes. This committee has allowed him and other members the opportunity to remain on the cutting edge of the development of civil and criminal law in Arkansas. Mike also serves on the Insurance and Commerce Committee, the Joint Committee on Children and Youth and the Senate Efficiency Committee.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has consistently named Beebe one of Arkansas' best legislators.
