InfoCalder B. Clay III is a seventh generation Georgian who comes from a family that has been part of Macon, Bibb County and middle Georgia since the 1800s.

The son of a surgeon and a registered nurse, Calder is following the tradition of public service
established by his parents and his grandparents. His grandfather, Calder B. Clay Sr., initially served as a Macon City Councilman from 1929 to 1932 and then as a Bibb County Commissioner from 1939 to 1949.

Just as his grandfather before him, Calder first served on the Macon City Council. In 1995, he was the first Republican ever elected in a citywide race for the Macon City Council, and he served on the Council as Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee. He also was selected to serve as a member of the Bibb County Board of Health during his Council term.

From 2000 to 2002, Calder earned a reputation as a hard-working, respected member of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners where he chaired the Public Works and Engineering Committee. In addition, he also served on the Macon Water Authority and the Macon Economic Development Council.
Calder won election to both the Macon City Council and the Bibb County Board of Commissioners with strong bipartisan and broad-based community support.

In 2002, Calder ran for the United States House of Representatives as the Republican nominee for Georgias third Congressional district (open-seat), losing by less than 1,500 votes in a district the experts said was a shoe-in for a Democrat. His race for Congress was one of the closest in the country and was a nationally targeted race. Calder proved himself to be a tremendous fundraiser by raising more than $1,300,000 from over 2,900 donors. Vice President Dick Cheney, then House Majority Leader Dick Armey, and then House Majority Whip Tom DeLay are just a handful of the political leaders that flew to Georgia and campaigned on Calders behalf. For his 2004 election campaign, Governor Sonny Perdue, Senator Saxby Chambliss and all eight Georgia Republican Congressmen have endorsed Calder in his race for Congress.

Calder has been active in many Republican election efforts including the late Paul Coverdells elections to the U.S. Senate and Senator Saxby Chambliss elections to Congress and the U.S. Senate. He served as a member of Chambliss finance team and as the Eighth District Chair of the Bush/Cheney 2002 Campaign.

A 1979 graduate of the University of Georgia, Calder earned a degree in Economics. Calder spent fifteen years in the medical sales field as a successful surgical instrument sales representative with Johnson and Johnson and Bristol Myers Squibb. In 1997, Calder established Clay Land Trust, a real estate investment partnership that acquires and markets timber tracts, farms and hunting properties. Currently, Calder is the Senior Vice President of The Sanford Company, an independent consultant to hospitals and long term care facilities, specifically assisting with professional liability, general liability, workers compensation and medical malpractice insurance needs.

Calder is active in his community and serves on numerous local boards, including Riverside United Methodist Church, Wesleyan College, MEDCEN, the American Cancer Society, the Macon Civic Club and Wachovia Bank.
