| Info | "It was on Jan. 21, 1892, that Scully, a diver, descended 80 feet below the surface of Lake Michigan to reach an ice blocked intake at the city's water crib which had cut the water supply. He chopped away the ice, then was drawn into the six foot intake pipe by the rush of water. He was in the frigid water for more than 50 minutes until power at the pumping stations was halted so he could be removed."
