Info | Nick Clooney's roots in Northern Kentucky run deep. He was born in Maysville, a small town on the banks of the Ohio River. It was in Maysville that Nick began his career in broadcasting, starting with a job on the radio at age 16.
From these small-town beginnings, Nick has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in journalism and entertainment. As a television journalist, Nick worked in Salt Lake City, Buffalo, and Los Angeles before becoming a fixture in the homes of Northern Kentuckians as a reporter and anchor in Cincinnati. Of all the awards and accolades Nick has garnered throughout his distinguished career, none make him as proud as the trust he earned from his neighbors as they welcomed him into their homes each night on television.
In 1989, Nick branched from television into print journalism as a columnist. He has since contributed three columns each week to the Cincinnati and Kentucky Post on subjects as varied as current politics, travel, and American history. His articles and op-ed pieces have appeared in newspapers across the country, including the Los Angeles Times and the Salt Lake City Tribune.
Nick has also built an impressive career as a television host. He has hosted talk variety shows in Cincinnati and Columbus and has been a guest host on programs in New York, Washington, Atlanta, and Indianapolis. His deep knowledge and love of film led him to spend five years as a writer and daily on-air host for the American Movie Classics cable network. He has also made appearances across the nation as part of AMC's campaign for film preservation. Clooney has authored three books, most recently The Movies that Changed Us in 2002.
Nick has been recognized numerous times for journalistic and broadcast excellence. He has received an Emmy Award for commentary and was thrice nominated for an Emmy for his work on AMC. He was named "Best in Business of Television News" by the Washington Review of Journalism. In 1998 Nick was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by Northern Kentucky University, and in 2000 he was awarded the President's Medal by Thomas More College in Edgewood, KY. He has been inducted into the Cincinnati Journalism Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame. And his work in the community has won him a "Lifetime Achievement" award from the Kentucky Arthritis Foundation and a "Distinguished Kentuckian" award from the Kentucky Broadcasters Association.
Throughout his long and distinguished career, Nick has stayed true to his Northern Kentucky roots. He is married to Nina Warren of Perryville, KY and the two have lived for the last 29 years in the tiny town of Augusta, 20 miles down-river from Maysville. They have two children: their eldest, Ada, is a writer and mother of the "World's Only Grandchildren," Allison and Nick; their youngest, son George, is a famous actor, producer and director in film and television.
