Mrs. Gibson grew up on a small family farm in Coffee County in the Victoria Community, attended public schools graduating from Zion Chapel High School in Jack, AL at the age of 16. She graduated from Troy State University with a degree in Business Administration and completed additional courses in accounting, computer science, graduate classes in education and numerous professional development seminars.
As Director of Career Placement at Troy State for 17 years, she worked with the employing public in business, education, and government with students and alumni seeking career employment. In addition, she taught Job Search Development classes, chaired many special events, and served as advisor for several student organizations including Mortar Board, ODK, and Alpha Gamma Delta. Other experience has included Outplacement Specialist/Manager working throughout the Southeast managing the transition of displaced workers, the largest group totaling 750 people. She also served as Executive Director of AOWA, a statewide environmental association.
Her professional achievements have been recognized on the local, state and regional level including Alabama Placement Professional Award, Southern College Placement Distinguished Award and NPMA All Star Award, all professional groups that Mrs. Gibson served in leadership positions. Ms. Gibson has been active in her church and community throughout her life and has served on the Montgomery Sunrise Rotary Club Board, Chairman of several charitable events, Charter President of Troy Junior Woman's Club, President of Southern College Placement Association, Chairman of Pike County United Way, and was named as Outstanding Young Woman of Troy in 1974. She was appointed by Speaker Seth Hammett to serve as a member of the Alabama Onsite Wastewater License Board. Her husband is Donald Gibson, a retired educator and small business owner. They have a daughter, Ms. Kenneth Jones (Angela), a speech pathologist with Baldwin County Schools, and a four-year-old grandson.
