Zach has had an interest in public service since his days at Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School when he was co-president of the Students’ Council. At Saint Mary’s University, he served as president of the Students' Association for two years, representing over 8,000 students to provincial and federal governments. Zach was part of a team of student leaders that successfully lobbied the provincial legislature to deliver a tuition rebate to N.S. students. He also spearheaded a national fundraising campaign to create a $300,000 bursary fund for low-income students. While at Saint Mary’s, he oversaw an annual budget of $4 million.
After leaving SMU, Zach was elected as the National Director of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations, representing over 300,000 students across Canada. While at CASA, Zach spearheaded the organization’s lobbying efforts in Ottawa to secure an annual $350 million investment in grants for low and middle income students and a one-time $2 billion investment for infrastructure on campuses across Canada. Zach serves as a Policy Analyst with the Learning Branch of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) in Ottawa.
