InfoKeith B. Hackett retired from the New Jersey State Police in 2008 after a long and distinguished career spanning over 26 years. Immediately prior to his retirement, while serving as the Executive Officer of the Intelligence Section, Captain Hackett was second in command of intelligence operations and was responsible for the supervision and oversight of a staff of 250 enlisted personnel and professional support staff. The Intelligence Section involved statewide operations designed to prevent, disrupt, and interdict organized crime, criminal street gangs, corruption, narcotic trafficking, terrorism, and illegal activity that undermined public safety and security.

Prior to his assignment in the Intelligence Section, Captain Hackett held supervisory positions in the Office of Professional Standards as a Bureau Chief in Internal Affairs then as Executive Officer, second in command of the Office. Captain Hackett was responsible for the supervision and oversight of a staff of 72 enlisted personnel and professional support staff. In this role, he coordinated and administered all aspects of the New Jersey State Police investigative and disciplinary process involving allegations of misconduct by state troopers. He also provided oversight of inspections and the audit functions of State Police operations. Captain Hackett provided inspired leadership to the Office of Professional Standards to ensure the highest public trust and confidence in state troopers, that they were conducting themselves in a professional and constitutional manner in the performance of their duties.

Leading up to his assignments in the Intelligence Section and Office of Professional Standards, Captain Hackett served on the Superintendent’s staff as a Lieutenant, assigned to strategic initiatives in matters concerning personnel performance systems, risk analysis, and management accountability for the State Police.

Captain Hackett began his law enforcement career in 1982 as a general patrol trooper and served at the Troop “E” Holmdel Station and Troop “C” Fort Dix and Edison stations. He performed routine police duties which included general policing such as patrol, accident investigation, and patrol related criminal investigations.

Captain Hackett became a detective and held investigative assignments, as well as supervisory positions, in several highly specialized investigative units: Violent Crime Analysis Unit, Missing Persons Unit, Racetrack Integrity Unit, Casino Gaming, and Office of Professional Standards.

Captain Hackett holds a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Seton Hall University, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Middlesex County College. He is a 2002 graduate of the prestigious F.B.I. National Academy attending the 209th Session.

Captain Hackett has resided in Monroe Township for over 24 years with his wife Lynn and two sons, Keith and Brian.
