Preparatory School and attended Dartmouth College at Hanover, N.H.; during the First World War served as a second lieutenant in the Reserve Officers Training Corps, Field Artillery, at Camp Taylor, Ark., in 1918; associated with his father in the coal, lumber, feed, and fuel-oil business in New Paltz, N.Y., 1916-1946; also engaged in the banking business; trustee of the village of New Paltz; delegate to the Republican State conventions in 1942 and 1946; Republican committeeman of New Paltz 1930-1946; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1943-January 3, 1951); was not a candidate for renomination in 1950; resumed his merchandising interests; member of the New York State Bridge Authority 1951-1955; died in Kingston, N.Y., April 26, 1970; interment in Lloyd Cemetery, Highland, N.Y.
