TOP ISSUES & PROPOSALS:
1. High property taxes: "While the county portion of the property tax bill is only about 12 percent, the freeholders must do their share in containing costs associated with major county projects. While the new Berkshire Valley golf course is an asset to Morris County, I would not like to see social service programs for seniors limited or cut as a way to balance the county budget. There are several proposals in search of a legislative sponsor to shift the collecting of school taxes from the local level to the broader-based state income tax structure. I believe this type of proposal has merit."
2. Preservation of open space: "Over-development is a problem for Morris County as evidenced by increased traffic congestion, scarce drinking water resources and crowded schools. As land prices continue to skyrocket, acquiring as much land as we can afford now will save taxpayers a great deal of money in the future."
3. Greystone property acquisition: "I am against demolishing all of the buildings on the site, and believe one or more should be preserved for historical purposes. If elected, I would be proactive in soliciting the involvement of my colleagues in the various mental health organizations in New Jersey to partner with local preservationists in fund-raising for the rehabilitation, so that the entire cost would not be borne by the county."
