TOP ISSUES & PROPOSALS:

1. Taxes and spending: "Middlesex County's bond rating as been reduced; this coupled with a growing payroll and bonding trend is leading to a further rise in county taxes. We should establish targeted multi-year budget planning so we don't put the residents through this roller-coaster tax ride. The budget needs to be formulated from the view of 'What does Middlesex need to provide for the health safety and welfare of its residents,' not 'What do want to spend and have to collect to cover the spending."

2. Traffic: "Middlesex County roads are parking lots and are ill-maintained, and trash litters many of the county roads. The entire transportation system needs to be placed on a rolling maintenance and cleaning schedule. I have lived on a county road for over 14 years and the county has never cleaned it. We need faster procedures for approval of traffic control devices and a mandatory 25 mph county road speed limit in all residential areas to increase safety."

3. Open space: "Open space purchases have been used for political patronage and not strategically targeted. The freeholders have used bond referendums to purchase land that could not be developed in the first place. We need to use 'open space preservation' as part of an overall strategic development plan focused on the most congested and deteriorated parts of Middlesex County, to decrease both traffic and population congestion and increase the aesthetic beauty of communities."
