Mayor of Long Beach Township from 1964 to his death.

Elected to the Board of Freeholders in 1982, holding that position until his death.

Freeholder James J. Mancini first elected to the Board of Freeholders in 1982, was a proven advocate of senior citizens, veterans services, improved transportation programs, library services and programs for the disabled. Freeholder Mancini served as chairman of Transportation and Senior Services. Under his leadership transportation programs in the County have been expanded to meet a growing population. In additon, programs and services to the growing senior population also have been expanded. Freeholder Mancini was also the long-time Mayor of Long Beach Township.

Mancini was elected to the State Assembly in 1971 -- the first legislator from the southern part of Ocean County -- and served one term before losing his seat in the 1973 Watergate landslide to Democrats John Paul Doyle and Daniel F. Newman. He unsuccessfully challenged State Sen. John F. Russo in 1977.


Mancini passed away on November 18, 2003.
