Info | Ron Kirkland is a lifelong Tennessean. Born and raised in Union City, he served as a Sergeant in the US Army, including a tour in Vietnam as a counterintelligence agent.
Ron earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin and his M.D. from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, where he received the Distinguished Service Award. In 2009, Ron completed an Executive MBA from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
A practicing physician for 25 years, Dr. Kirkland is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of The Jackson Clinic, a multispecialty medical group comprising over 120 physicians in 14 West Tennessee locations. Twice selected by his peers as one of the "Best Doctors in America," he has also been named one of "America's Top Physicians". Ron served as Chair of the Board of American Medical Group Association based in Alexandria, Virginia, in 2008.
In addition to his medical practice, Ron is also an active community leader. Some of his many roles have included President of the Jackson Rotary Club and President of the University of Tennessee National Alumni Association. He has served on the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) Athletic Board and on the boards of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Arts Council. One of his favorite volunteer activities was coaching youth soccer and basketball for 10 years.
Ron and his wife of 41 years, Carol, settled in Jackson to raise their family. They are the proud parents of four children and three grandchildren. The Kirklands are active members of First Baptist Church in Jackson, where Ron serves as a deacon.
The 8th Congressional District covers most of West Tennessee and some of Middle Tennessee. The District stretches from the suburbs of Memphis to the suburbs of Nashville. The 8th District will likely be a battleground congressional district for the national parties in 2010.
