InfoFrank G. Bonelli assumed office as interim county supervisor on June 4, 1958, following the death of Herbert C. Legg on April 1. The following day, Bonelli was appointed by Gov. Goodwin J. Knight to permanently fill the remainder of the term. He was officially elected to the seat on June 10. Bonelli was re-elected in 1962, 1966 and 1970.

Born on October 15, 1906 in Grand Junction, Colo., his family moved to Huntington Park when he was 1 year old. He lived in that community until his death in 1972. He attended Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles and later became a successful businessman.

His public career began in 1943 when he was elected to the Huntington Park City Council, serving for 10 years with two terms as mayor. He was elected in 1953 to the California State Assembly representing the 52nd District, where he served until he took office as county supervisor.

In addition to serving four terms as county supervisor, Bonelli served on the State Regional Water Quality Control Board for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties and the Local Agency Formation Commission. He was also an ex-officio member of the Los Angeles County Fair Association. He was president of the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce and Toastmasters; and held membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Knights of Columbus, Anchor Club, Moose and Eagles.

Credited with being the "Father of California Reapportionment," Bonelli spearheaded two constitutional amendment initiatives to bring about equitable representation for Los Angeles County and Southern California in the state Senate.

He and his wife Muriel, had two daughters, Barbara and Beverly Jean.
