Info | Dear Friends,
I am a passionate man.
I love God, my family, and my country deeply.
Nancy, my wife of twenty eight years, and I are both native South Carolinians. When it was time to raise our family, we came back home to South Carolina because this is home. My oldest daughter is a recent graduate of the College of Charleston and my youngest daughter is now a sophomore at Clemson.
I decided to run for Congress from the First Congressional District of South Carolina because I believe that my country desperately needs my service.
I recently retired as a Reserve Officer in the Air Force after thirty two years. I enlisted in the South Carolina Air National Guard at McEntire Guard Base near Columbia and rose from the lowest rank in the Air Force to become a full Colonel when I finally retired on January 1st, 2010.
I was on active duty for over ten years and was involved in flight operations in Grenada, Panama, and the Middle East during that period. When I left the active service in 1991, I joined the Air Force Reserve where I became an Air Liaison Officer and crawled in the mud with the Army while advising Brigade Commanders on the effective use of Close Air Support during combat operations.
After I was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, I found myself at the Pentagon figuring out how the Air Force could best support the Army and Marines in their long war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I left temporarily in 2002 to fight the Second Gulf War Commanding the 405th Expeditionary Operations Group in Oman. I was sent to Camp Ramadi, Iraq for my third Middle Eastern tour for most of 2008 as the Director of Operations.
In my other life, while not doing the nation’s work in the Air Force, I was and am a commercial pilot for Delta Air Lines. I now fly the B-777 on international routes, primarily from New York to Tokyo, Japan.
Nancy and I travelled the world while I was in the Air Force. That gave us the chance to observe how people all over the world dealt with the challenges they faced daily in their lives. It enabled me to go to school on the successes and failures of other communities throughout America and abroad. I have continued to observe and learn while flying everywhere with Delta.
I also have been fortunate enough to have had great mentors in my military career who have taught me to sometimes step back from the day to day challenges of life and contemplate the big picture in order to visualize a path to get to where you need to be twenty years from now.
I was appointed by Democratic and Republican Governors to serve on the South Carolina Housing Finance and Development Authority. While there I learned many lessons about development and job creation here in South Carolina.
No one in this election understands better the security needs of our country than I do with my thirty two years of Air Force service. No one in the election better understands the safety and security issues facing our national air transport system than I do with my many years as a commercial airline pilot. No one in this election knows better how to create jobs and grow our economy than I do with my service to South Carolina on the Housing, Finance, and Development Authority.
I intend to bring all these lessons I have learned from a lifetime of service with me to Washington. If you choose to elect me as your Congressman from the First Congressional District of South Carolina. I will show you, through deeds, not words, that I am the best candidate to move South Carolina forward with jobs and to protect America from attacks from her enemies. Please join me on my mission.
