| Info | HOLLEMAN, Joel, a Representative from Virginia; born near Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, Va., October 1, 1799; completed preparatory studies; was graduated from Wake Forest College, Wake Forest, N.C.; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice at Burwell Bay; member of the State house of delegates 1832-1836; member of the State senate 1836-1839; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress and served from March 4, 1839, until 1840, when he resigned; again a member of the State house of delegates 1841-1844, and served as speaker; resumed the practice of law; died in Smithfield, Va., August 5, 1844; interment in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
