Info | LEHLBACH, Frederick Reimold, (nephew of Herman Lehlbach), a Representative from New Jersey; born in New York City January 31, 1876; moved with his parents to Newark, N.J., in 1884; attended the public schools; was graduated from Yale University in 1897; attended the New York Law School; was admitted to the bar in February 1899 and commenced practice in Newark, N.J.; member of the Newark Board of Education 1900-1903; member of the State house of assembly 1903-1905; clerk of the State board of equalization of taxes from April 3, 1905, until his resignation on April 14, 1908; appointed assistant prosecutor of Essex County on April 15, 1908, and served until April 6, 1913, when he resigned to resume the practice of law; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1915-January 3, 1937); chairman, Committee on Reform in the Civil Service (Sixty-sixth through Sixty-eighth Congresses), Committee on Civil Service (Sixty-ninth through Seventy-first Congresses); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1936 to the Seventy-fifth Congress; continued the practice of law in Washington, D.C., until his death there on August 4, 1937; interment in Fairmount Cemetery, Newark, N.J.
