| Info | Dan Moore of Charleston is an experienced and effective West Virginia business and community leader. He is the only candidate for governor who can claim the real world experience necessary to serve as the state�s chief executive officer in these difficult times.
For nearly 20 years, Dan, 62, served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Matewan Bancshares, a multi-state West Virginia bank. Not content to grow one successful business, Dan parlayed his skills into further job creation. He was a partner in a successful building supplies company. He and his wife Betty Jo are owners of the Moore Auto Group which consists of five auto dealerships across West Virginia and Kentucky.
For his various efforts in building successful organizations that provide countless opportunities for the people of West Virginia, Dan was chosen West Virginia Entrepreneur of the Year in 1991 and was inducted into the Marshall University Business Hall of Fame in 1997. He also served as chairman of the West Virginia Bankers Association and has served on the board of directors of the West Virginia Business Roundtable.
Dan�s strong belief in the need for high-quality education for the young people of the Mountain State led him to serve the state�s educational institutions as a member of the Marshall University Board of Governors and as a member of the West Virginia University Foundation Board of Directors.
The son of Ray Moore, a coal miner, and Virginia Moore, a homemaker, Dan attended Matewan public schools and graduated from Matewan High School. Dan went on to Concord College where he served as president of the student body. Following his graduation from Concord, Dan taught high school math and business courses. A year later, he joined Matewan National Bank where he served as a loan officer and steadily rose to the bank�s helm in 1981.
Dan has been married to Betty Jo Moore for 40 years. They are the parents of Daniel, the manager of the Moore Auto Group, and Angel, a law student at West Virginia University. They are the grandparents of a granddaughter, Morgan.
Dan and Betty Jo are members of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Kanawha City and recently completed a 34-week Bible study class
