Info | In addition to serving as mayor of Richmond, Mayor Butt serves on numerous regional public agency and non-profit boards and committees, including board member and past chair, Local Government Commission, League of California Cities Environmental Quality Policy Committee, alternate, Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), commissioner, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), West Contra Costa Transportation Advisory Committee (WCCTAC) City of Richmond representative, Contra Costa Transportation Authority commissioner and chair, Marin Clean Energy (MCE) Board vice-chair and Richmond representative, and East Bay Regional Park District Liaison Committee Richmond representative.
Mayor Butt is also principal-in-charge of an architectural firm, Interactive Resources, and continues to work as an architect. The firm is a leader in sustainable design with projects certified as LEED Silver, Gold and Platinum. Interactive Resources has been in business for over 40 years in Richmond with up to 20 employees.
Mayor Butt founded East Brother Light Station, Inc., a non-profit that restored and continues to operate East Brother Light Station as a public service, and is a founder and board member of Rosie the Riveter Trust, the non-profit partner of Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park.
Mayor Butt has been married to his wife, Shirley Butt, since 1971. They have two sons, Daniel and Andrew, and five grandchildren. Mayor Butt earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arkansas and his Master of Architecture in Urban Design from UCLA. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including in Vietnam 1969-70. Mayor Butt has received numerous awards for his years of public service.
