InfoLOCKWOOD, Daniel Newton, a Representative from New York; born in Hamburg, Erie County, N.Y., June 1, 1844; attended common schools; was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1865; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1866 and practiced in Buffalo, N.Y.; district attorney of Erie County 1874-1877; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1877-March 3, 1879); delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1880, 1884 and 1896; United States attorney for the northern district of New York from October 1886 until June 1889 when he resigned; elected to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses (March 4, 1891-March 3, 1895); was not a candidate for reelection in 1894 to the Fifty-fourth Congress but was an unsuccessful candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York; resumed the practice of his profession in Buffalo, N.Y.; general manager from New York at the Pan American Exposition in 1901; appointed in 1903 by Governor Benjamin B. Odell a member of the State lunacy commission, which office he held until his death in Buffalo, N.Y., June 1, 1906; interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
