Info | Edney was a general in the state militia.
In 1853, Democratic newspapers reported that President Fillmore and the Whig Party had paid Edney $1,000 to campaign for the Whig ticket the previous year. Edney emphatically denied the charge. State newspapers engaged in an editorial war on the matter for months. The Raleigh Register gave an overview of the situation on 7/15/1854.
Strong supporter of secession 1861; organized an infantry regiment for the Confederate Army
Killed in his house on 4/21/1865. Although it was reported that Union soldiers killed him, historians later stated that the Union soldiers didn't reach Henderson County until two days later: [Link]
