InfoPedro Payano has worked and raised his family in Lawrence for over twenty-two years. As a Lawrence Public Schools teacher, homeowner and community activist Pedro has long committed himself to the improvement of our city.

Pedro is a certified social studies teacher in Massachusetts and has taught in Lawrence Public Schools for over two decades. He is currently teaching at Lawrence High School, where he experience includes serving as head of the Bilingual and Foreign Language programs. Pedro has worked closely with administrators and parents as a member of the Parent Advisory Council and has forcefully advocated for improvements and accountability in the Lawrence Public School System as a proud member of the Lawrence Teacher's Union.

Pedro was born in the Dominican Republic and graduated with a degree in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Language and Culture from the prestigious University of Salamanca in Spain. Pedro immigrated to the United States because he believed that America was the land of opportunity. Pedro settled his family in Lawrence, took a job as a school teacher and began advocating for social and economic justice, youth involvement and better government.

A proud Democrat, Pedro has also organized Lawrence for a variety of Democratic candidates including Niki Tsongas, Governor Deval Patrick and President Obama. Pedro has also been active in different community, cultural and professional organizations.

Pedro is a husband and a father of five. He has been married for over twenty-five years to his wife Maria, who is also a Lawrence High School teacher. Three of his children were raised in Lawrence and attended Lawrence Public Schools. From a young age Pedro instilled in them a strong work ethic, family values and a passion for civic activism.
