Info | Wilson A. Terrero was born in the Dominican Republic in a small town called Las Matas de Farfán located in the Southwestern, Province of San Juan de la Maguana.
In 2009, Mr. Terrero was elected for a four year term as Councilmember to represent the Second Council District of the City of Yonkers.
His civic involvement commenced at an early age, through volunteer work at the Catholic Church he attended and was elected President of the Juvenile Parochial Church Group. He was also a baseball player and eventually became Vice President and Coach of several teams; several of his players are now playing in Major League Baseball. Mr. Terrero came to the United States in 1989. He is the fourth child of eight siblings, having two sisters and five brothers. In addition, his parents adopted and helped raise four other children.
A High School graduate from the Dominican Republic, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Mercy College and a Masters Degree of Science in Counseling, also from Mercy College in 2002. At Mercy College, he was a Lab Assistant in Mathematics and Computer Science and Tutored ESL students at the Learning Center. He was elected President of the Latin American Student Association for two consecutive years and successfully initiated programs that were instrumental in the education and progress of Latino students. He was also elected Chairperson of the Mercy College Hispanic Scholarship Dinner Committee, for three consecutive years and is still currently a member of the committee.
During his university studies, he and his family successfully ventured into business and opened a Discount Store, later expanding it into a small chain of Grocery Stores. Mr. Terrero soon expanded his family business thru real estate investments. He is the president and founder of Terrero Realty, LLC. And also, former owner of Mango’s Bar Café & Restaurant.
In the City of Yonkers he saw a great need to start an organization that would bring educational and cultural programs to Latinos in the community. So, in 2003, he founded the Dominican Cultural Association of Yonkers, Inc. Under his leadership, the organization is creating and implementing programs that are mobilizing Latinos to engage and participate in their community. One of the programs that he is very proud of is the Arts and Crafts for low-income children between the ages of 9 and 14. In 2008, he was chosen to be the God Father “Padrino” of the Dominican Day Parade in the Bronx. In 2006, he was appointed to a four year term as a board member of the Yonkers Community Development Agency. As a board member, he represents the interest of the community.
Mr. Terrero is also founding member the Yonkers Federation of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was recognized by the Westchester Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Inc. for his Business accomplishments and for his contributions to the Westchester Business Community. Wilson was also inducted into the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship of the Rotary International Foundation. He was instrumental in helping the Rotary Club achieve the 2009 Annual fundraising goal of $100,000 for the “Mother-Baby AIDS Project,” which funds a clinic in La Romana, Dominican Republic, dedicated to stopping the transmission of the HIV virus from mothers to infants.
Wilson Terrero is the proud father of his beautiful daughter Aileen Terrero. He is a role model to many in his community and is an example of a successful Latino citizen.
