Info | I was born to Dobie and the late Thelma Davis in 1966. My parents and grandparents brought me up in a very loving family that taught me the importance of hard work, commitment, service and self determination.
I attended Syracuse City schools and proudly graduated from Corcoran High School in 1984. To further my education, I attended Onondaga Community College (OCC) receiving my Associates degree in Human Services.
While at OCC, I participated in many student activities, and in 1986 I was elected the first African-American President of Student Government which was a great honor and opportunity. While serving as Student President, I was able to participate in the creation of the Minority Affairs Office and was also instrumental in supporting diversity training for the college student body and administration.
After graduating from OCC, I worked for the Syracuse School District. While with the district I mentored children with special needs. Having worked with those gifted young lives I was inspired to return to college to become a full time teacher. In 1998, I received a Bachelor of Sciences degree from SUNY Oswego in Elementary Education.
I have been married for over 12 years to my lovely wife, Felicia and have been blessed with four bright children LaQuan, Jecoura, Zarfara, and Tizera.
In addition to my education, I have always been drawn to public service and have worked for many years as a community activist and leader. In my efforts to empower our community, I worked with other community leaders to create a civic program named the “ The ABC’s of Politics” which taught city residents the basics of the electoral process.
In my drive to encourage community involvement in the political process I spearheaded the “Organizational Meeting”. Through this grassroots group I worked to educate residents about service agencies and resources available to them.
Over the years I have worked on many committees and task forces focused on civil and human rights. Additionally, I also worked on several successful campaigns for local elected representatives.
