InfoJ Ed Macdonald was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on June 7, 1944. He attended school in Halifax and was a graduate of Rothesay Collegiate, Rothesay, NB. He completed his Commercial Aviation License at Air Atlantic Aviation and began flying with Eastern Provincial Airways. Through several mergers within the industry, J Ed retired from Air Canada as a Captain in 2004. While flying, he held several positions, including company check pilot, and he flew both domestic and international routes on various aircraft. J Ed has lived in several provinces throughout his career. He has always been active within his community as an enthusiastic volunteer. In the early 70's, J Ed and family built a summer cottage on Roy's Island and are very proud to say that no matter where they lived, they considered Pictou County their home. It was only natural that they chose to retire here. Most recently he has been involved with the New Glasgow Music Festival, The Pictou County Artist's Association. He enjoys running, golf, and sailing. While this is the first time he is seeking political office, he brings to the table a wide variety of abilities. He is a positive and forward thinking individual who is prepared to listen and progress. He has common sense, he has the leadership capabilities, and he is willing to make the commitment to work diligently of behalf of the people of Pictou East. J Ed and his wife Sharon have two children, daughter Jennifer (Rob) Thomson, Halifax, son Jay (Carol) Macdonald, Calgary and six beautiful grandchildren.
