Info | Steve began his career as an attorney at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. during the Clinton Administration. Steve worked in the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance and reviewed initial public offerings (IPOs), stock and bond offerings and corporate mergers and acquisitions for the SEC.
He also worked on several of the SEC's rulemaking initiatives and trained newly-hired attorneys. After the SEC, Steve returned to New York and was hired as a Senior Associate in the Global Corporate Client group at a major Wall Street law firm. While Steve was based in New York, he spent a significant time working in the firm's Hong Kong office. Steve then was Corporate Counsel at a major Fortune 175 company where he was the company's head securities attorney and lead international attorney.
In 2004 Steve opened his own law office located on Wall Street in the Financial District of New York City. With his office steps away from the New York Stock Exchange and the World Trade Center, his practice includes advising small, medium and large companies and hedge funds in the areas of securities law, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, contract law and international business transactions. In addition to his law practice, Steve also runs a real estate investment company with his brother Jeff.
Steve has been active in state, local and national politics for many years. Since 2004 Steve has been President of Democrats for New Politics. Democrats for New Politics is a progressive Democratic club based in Northeast Queens. Steve is also a founding member of Democracy for America and its local group Democracy For New York City. Democracy for America was started by Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean to foster progressive political activism. Steve has been a member of the Saul Weprin Democratic Club for 23 years and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Queens County Progressive Democratic Club. Steve is also an active member of several other grass-roots/net-roots groups locally and nationally.
Over the years Steve has worked to make Northeast Queens a better place to live and work. He has done this by working to ensure that the citizens of Northeast Queens are informed of the critical issues that face our neighborhood, our city,our state and our nation. Through Democrats for New Politics, Steve has worked to bring elected officials, candidates, community leaders and renowned experts to Northeast Queens to teach and inform the community of the issues we face. Steve's community activities also include organizing graffiti clean-up events and working with groups such as Friends of Cunningham Park on "Community Volunteer Days" to clean up the park. In addition, through voter registration drives, Steve has helped register hundreds of new voters in Queens. Steve firmly believes that registering citizens to vote and giving them a voice in who is elected to public office is the only way to ensure that our democracy is truly the will of the people.
Steve is also President of Northshore Anti-Graffiti Volunteers, Inc. Northshore Anti-Graffiti Volunteers, Inc. is a non-profit volunteer organization working to clean-up and eliminate graffiti in Northeast Queens that was founded by Councilman Tony Avella.
In addition to his work in the community, Steve has worked on the campaigns of many progressive candidates in our community, across the state and nationally. In 2004, Steve worked on Governor Howard Dean's presidential campaign in New Hampshire and in New York. In 2007- 2008 he worked on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. He campaigned for Senator Clinton in presidential primaries in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and New York. After Senator Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination for President, Steve volunteered for the Obama-Biden campaign. Steve formed the group Northeast Queens for Obama to engage our community in the 2008 presidential race. Steve organized voter registration drives in Queens, organized Presidential Debate watch parties, opened an Obama/Biden office in Flushing, organized weekely campaign trips to "swing-states" and pursued other voter outreach programs in support of the 2008 Democratic campaign. Steve is a member of the New York Democratic Lawyers Council and has worked at polling places to ensure that election laws are followed and that all eligible voters were allowed to vote and that those votes were counted. He has for worked "election protection" ensuring that no eligible voters are disenfranchised in elections across New York State, in Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Steve has, in addition to his work on national elections, worked for the campaigns of progressive candidates for the New York City Council, the New York State Senate and for the United States Congress. Steve's campaign work has helped elect several Democratic challengers to incumbent Republican held seats. Steve has also campaigned for several locally elected officials including Tony Avella and Jim Gennaro.
When he's not working or campaigning, Steve manages and plays first base and outfield for a team in the Men's Adult Baseball League. He also plays Defensive End and Tight End on a flag football team in the Long Island Flag Football League. He also enjoys playing basketball, riding his bicycle and lifting weights. In addition to playing sports, Steve is a fan of the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and NASCAR. He is an avid fan of alternative rock music, closely follows the world's financial markets and is a car enthusiast...especially Corvettes!
