Info | Bruce Broadwater was first elected to the Garden Grove City Council in 1992. In November 1994, he was elected Mayor of Garden Grove and then re-elected Mayor in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002. In 2004, he termed out of the Mayoral office, but ran and was re-elected to the Garden Grove City Council in 2006.
During his Mayoral tenure, Council Member Broadwater was credited with remedying the unlivable conditions of the former Haster Gardens apartments; keeping city libraries open during the 1994 Orange County Bankruptcy; and supporting the key commercial expansion of the Harbor Resort area.
Council Member Broadwater obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Relations and Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco. He is also an Army veteran who served in Germany from 1956 to 1959.
Prior to his Garden Grove City Council service, he served as the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce president. During the 20 years he owned an insurance agency in Garden Grove, he gained a keen understanding of the business community. He is currently employed by the California Division of Labor Standards as a Deputy Labor Commissioner.
Council Member Broadwater has lived in Garden Grove since 1971. He and his wife Peggy have two married sons, Josh and Jeremy, and three grandchildren, Preston, Lexi, and Jeremy Jr.
