InfoCREELY, John Vaudain, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Philadelphia, Pa., November 14, 1839; received a classical education; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1862 and practiced in Philadelphia; during the Civil War served with the Union Army as an officer of Light Artillery; member of the Philadelphia city council for four years; elected as an Independent Republican to the Forty-second Congress (March 4, 1871-March 3, 1873); before his term of service had expired he mysteriously disappeared, and upon the application of his sister, Adelaide G. Creely, to whom was awarded his estate, he was declared legally dead on September 28, 1900, by the orphans’ court of Philadelphia.
