Info | Thomas D. "Tom" Ganley
An Ohio native, Tom Ganley is the President and CEO of the Ganley Automotive Group, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. Tom Ganley, who began his career with one Rambler dealership in Euclid, Ohio, now runs the largest automotive group in Ohio, comprised of 32 dealerships, employing over 1000 people.
Mr. Ganley began selling cars at Wright Motors, in Cleveland, in 1962. Later, he joined Frank Nero Lincoln-Mercury, in Bedford, quickly becoming the sales manager. He left Nero in 1968 to open Eastway Rambler.
In 1975, Tom purchased an AMC-Jeep store in North Olmsted. Three years later, Tom became the owner of Ganley Lincoln-Mercury in Middleburg Heights, Budget Rent-A-Car at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, and Ganley Dodge of Bedford. In 1979, he added Ganley Oldsmobile in Lakewood, which, eventually, would become Ganley Subaru-Suzuki.
During the recession of 1980-81, the company consolidated its growth. Then, in 1982, Budget Rent-A-Car of Akron was added. Parma Imports was brought aboard in 1983, and, in 1984, Ganley Dodge West.
The company continues to grow and now includes Chevrolet, Ford, and Chrysler as well as dealerships selling imports such as Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, and BMW. Tom has extended his business interests to include one of the largest independently owned auto financing companies in the nation as well as an insurance company. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Independence Bank. A profitable bank which did not require any government bailouts.
While a major employer in Northeastern Ohio, the Ganley organization is still very much a "family" business. Of the Ganley's four children, all have worked in the business, three at the present time. This brings about much activity in the community and charitable functions. Individual stores often sponsor Little League baseball and football teams, basketball, bowling, and adult sports teams, as well.
Accomplishments are many. Tom has been the spokesperson for "Buckle-Up Cleveland", an automotive safety initiative, sponsored by the Cleveland Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. In May 2001, he was named President and CEO of Crime Stoppers of Northern Ohio. This organization, funded, in part, by Mr. Ganley, as well as private donations, offers cash rewards for crime tipsters.
In May, 2006, he was named "Man of the Year' by the Cuyahoga County Police Chiefs Association for his leadership and outstanding support of law enforcement in the Cleveland area. Other special recognition awards come from the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate for outstanding accomplishment, the "Gold & Silver Award" from the Northern Ohio Law Enforcement Community and the honor of being the Cleveland Police Historical Society's Man of the Year.
Tom also received the Louis E. Peters Memorial Service Award in 2007. The award is the highest honor the FBI can bestow on a civilian.
As a member of the first graduating class of St. Peter Chanel High School: Mr. Ganley proudly became the school's first inductee into their Hall of Fame in Bedford, Ohio.
Tom, and his wife, Lois, met in elementary school at age 10. They have been married for 45 years. Children are Denise Ganley Stease, Thomas, Robert, and Kenneth. Additionally, they boast eight grandchildren.
