Info | Karl Krueger was born on March 12, 1947 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, located just east of the Mississippi River. He married Alla Gorbatyuk on May 15, 2004; they have three children, Julia, Wendy, and Svetlana. Karl, Alla, and Svetlana live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Karl grew up on a farm near Sparta, Wisconsin with five siblings. Mary was the oldest, then Karl and Steve, followed by a ten year divide before Thomas, Susan, and Danny (Dobe). Karl and his brother Steve who is 14 months younger than Karl, began farming at an early age. They had many horses on the farm, and competed in western horse shows. Karl's parents, Harold and Lucy, were active in the founding of the Wisconsin High School Rodeo, the Western Wisconsin Horseman's Association and the Sparta Trail Duster Saddle Club.
All of the Krueger children were active in sports, band, and community service. In fact, Karl and Steve were both very involved in John F. Kennedy's 1960 presidential campaign. During the campaign, they were fortunate enough to meet Kennedy as he campaigned in Sparta. Steve actually sold the future president a World Famous Chocolate Bar for 50 cents during his trip. They also got his autograph that day, and have been looking for it ever since they convinced Mom to put it somewhere safe.
Karl and Steve both joined the military in 1966, Steve the Navy, and Karl the Army. They soon left for basic training and were not to meet again until both were assigned to the Republic of Vietnam during the war; Steve was in Danang and Karl just south of Danang with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. Both spent two extended tours there during the conflict. After three and a half years, Steve returned home and joined the Naval Reserve, and later the Wisconsin National Guard. Karl remained in the army until he was forced to leave as a result of arthritis in his knees. Karl spent 14 years in the service, and takes great pride in being a life member of the United States Parachute Association. He was an active skydiver in the 60's and 70's, and is still active in the Experimental Aircraft Association today.
