State Assemblyman

David Goldwater is a native Las Vegan, born at Sunrise Hospital. He attended Howard Wasden Elementary, Matt Kelly Sixth Grade Center and Hyde Park Junior High. He graduated from Bishop Gorman High School.

At Bishop Gorman High School David was a star athlete, lettering in both football and basketball. His basketball team won the State Championship in 1988, and his football team was the State Runner-Up in 1987. David won Honorable Mention as an All-Division High School football player.

Following graduation, David attended the University of San Diego before returning to his hometown college - UNLV. He studied Business Administration with a major in Finance, and was a key part of UNLV's nationally recognized Debate Team. His academic record earned him the Nevada Insurance Scholar Award.

David worked his way through college, taking jobs at a bank and in retail. His independent spirit soon led him to start his own business, and with a $2500 loan, he and a partner created Errands, Inc., which soon grew from a personal errands service into a widely-used furniture delivery service. The company and the two young entrepreneurs who founded it were featured in several local television and newspaper stories.

Before graduating from UNLV, David added to his understanding of the financial world by studying at Italy's prestigious School of International Business.

After his graduation from UNLV, David volunteered to spend a summer in Washington, D.C., as an intern on the staff of then Congressman Jim Bilbray, of Nevada. The impressive quality of David's work resulted in his being asked to stay on a part of the paid legislative staff.

As a congressional staff person for several years, David did extensive work in the areas of banking, health care, insurance, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and civil service. Because of his key role in the health care debate, David is frequently asked to serve as a panelist and speaker.

Upon his return to Las Vegas, David served as a business affairs consultant to a large medical office, worked as a broker with Merrill Lynch, was an associate vice president at First Union Securities, and is currently with Marco Consulting Group, a financial consulting firm.

In 1994, David ran for and was elected to the Nevada Legislature, representing Assembly District 10. There he distinguished himself as a fiscal conservative and social liberal.

On the Judiciary Committee, David worked to pass the Truth In Sentencing bill, as well as sexual harassment and anti-stalking measures. As the Chairman of the Taxation Committee and a member of the Ways and Means Committee, David worked closely with his Democratic colleagues and Governor Guinn to balance the state's budget with no new taxes.

David's leadership in investigating Nevada's laws and enforcement of securities sales led to the passage of new laws clearly defining responsibilities and building new protection by putting some teeth in securities fraud laws, thereby helping Nevada investors.

Assemblyman Goldwater's current committee roles reflect his areas of expertise: Commerce and Labor, Taxation, and Ways and Means. David remains committed to protect the pocketbooks of Nevada's taxpayers, and his drive to serve his constituents in District 10 is stronger than ever.
